That was still true in the 70s/early 80s in my experience. If you mentioned another manager to a director you had to use their surname otherwise you'd get a who? until you did. Colin Montgomeries dad was the production director there and him and the Finance Director, my boss, certainly did a good impression of hating each other to the extent I'd be tasked at times to do things like go through invoices that he'd approved. A bit more interesting than building office furniture but not much.

Why did they pick the name Jaguar? After a South American cat?
As I suspected I was right about everything.

They had to change from SS in the 1930s due to RBJ's mates not being that popular here.

Trying to conjure up a joke about "swallow" but it's too early.
As I suspected I was right about everything.

It seems that Lyons wanted an animal name for the SS sports car and forthcoming saloon in 1934/5 and most of them were taken. He sought permission from Armstong-Siddeley to use the "Jaguar" model name from their aero-engines. It is often touted that "SS" was dropped postwar after Hitler's little glee club but in reality it was happening well before that.treehugger wrote: ↑Tue Jun 21, 2022 8:51 am Why did they pick the name Jaguar?
