From where i nicked it , it says , that Bullnose can be no older than 1926 season (from late 1925 to July 1926), prior to this they had no brakes on the front wheels!

Last March, the surface is getting back to that Bullnose picture in a lot of places , had to switch off the traction control and go a bit gung-ho on a couple of the steep hairpins , it was a bit slippery and the tyres were shit, mind.

I wasn't aware of that one! I've done Applecross but that looks much more interesting still. I've never actually visited the Lake District, always just driven past it on the way to Scotland and back, choosing to stay in Scotland longer and travel back to Shropshire in one hit instead.

Hardknott is the steepest pass in England I think, about 1in3 in places. I prefer it going west as the view from the top with the Roman fort in front of Sellafield really shows how much history is there. You can see the IoM on a clear day too.
Then a mile or two from the bottom there's a couple of pubs to stop in.
