Yes it certainly was, up to the mid 20s I think.....They started off as Velodromes and then became bigger, banked circuits for motor racing events. Chiefly in America, I have only heard of there being bicycle tracks in Europe.

One of the many amazing board tracks was the one that ran for over 25 miles through Pasadena in California. Essentially a pier on land it enabled break-neck and pleasure cyclists alike to ride freely over streets, pavements and junctions. Los Angeles Motordrome was also a board circuit originally - I guess these constructions worked best in dry climates.....

Yeah....Rover-BRM gas turbine Le Mans car, 1965 with Hill/Stewart driving. First British car home that year.....
