Re: Found pics
On this day, 56 years ago
Launched at the London Motor Show on October 20 1965, three years after the MGB Roadster, the MGB GT was to become an instant success.
The bodywork was basically styled by Syd Enever's department at MG's Abingdon works but with some final retouches by Italian designer Pininfarina who was a consultant to the BMC.
The GT version of the MGB was certainly seen as a useful upward extension of the range and was justifiably viewed as a “poor man’s Aston Martin”, with its handsome styling and excellent (for the time) ride and handling characteristics.
The GT quickly established itself in the market place, offering the same performance as the Roadster but with the added versatility of children's seats in the back, improved headroom, more luggage space, as well as a roof which made it more sensible for all-year-round motoring.
