I also had an Allegro 1750HL, must have been around 1985-ish. A friend wanted 100 quid for it with tax & MOT so I bought it. It was a bronze hue with a tatty vinyl roof. Seemed to run and drive okay but after a few weeks I sold it to a mate for 150 quid so not a bad profit. I can recall that it was R reg.

I scored very low on the autie test. I’m cheerful, happy, confident, like meeting new people, chatty and largely sociable. What the fuck am I doing on this forum?

I had an Allegro too. Light blue automatic estate car. I still like the look of the Allegro Estate. Much better looking than the saloon.

Apart from the recent Vanden Plas 1500 I was loaned an Allegro by a mate in 1986. It was Mot'd so I taxed and insured it. I was desperate for transport as the back axle had gone on my Morgan. The Allegro was an A series engine which was OK apart from burning oil. (Valve stem seals). It used nearly as much oil as petrol, ran apart from in heavy traffic where it would oil the plugs up.

I used it to go up to London to collect a reconditioned axle from a Morgan dealer who was based in a Mews in an expensive bit. At one point I has a policeman trying to move me on. I was in Belgrave Square with the bonnet up cleaning the spark plugs. Apparently someone had suspected that I was planting a car bomb, luckily I was approached by a sensible constable who was able to report in that I was no threat.

When I still lived with my parents I used to commute to town 15 miles away. No matter how early, or late, I left for work I invariably used to end up behind a metallic blue Allegro estate - it joined the main dawdle each morning at the third roundabout in.

I'm sure it used to wait for me. The reason I recall it so ambivalently was the excitable dog stood in the back of it who ran incessantly from one side of the car to another (I say run, it mainly just changed ends with itself), barking continually the whole remaining 12 miles of the journey. Bastard thing drove me nuts - and this was over 40 years ago.

I bought a 1750 Allegro sport from Ely car auctions one night to get back home after selling an Escort mk2 Ghia. I was actually a half decent car but for the life of me I can't remember what happened to it.

When I was an auction driver, EVERY Aleppo saloon had a loose rear seat squab for some reason. Also, for some reason, they took an eternity to warm up as well regardless of what engine was fitted. Even back in 1988 it was super rare to see an early quartic go around the ring.

Don't try too hard, you might realise you still own it.
