Most Stags were dead by 1980 anyway due to overheating.Drum wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 11:43 pmSorry, missed this thread.
As said, SnoTrac with air cooled vw engine. Have the turning circle of the QE2 and could throw a track on the sort of rough hill ground my dad used them on.
Dad on the left. Apologies if the dead stag offends anyone. Taken in about 1980

Re: Found pics
They could climb anything no matter how wet or steep. Not very manoeuvrable (spelling?) and not great going across a slope. A big stone hiding in the heather could pop the track off when turning.
TBF they were built for snow and were great in that.
We replaced them with argocats. Wee plastic 8 wheelers which were lightweight and could go anywhere, including on water.

Yeah, thats them....And Drum's right I think they did have six wheelers....Crayford were involved in marketing them but I can't remember who actually made the things.

Re: Found pics
Crayford Specialist Vehicles made them. Crayford were a corporate client of mine and yes, they were the same Crayford that chopped the tops off Fords. IIRC the boss owned a Volvo 960.mercrocker wrote: ↑Sun Feb 21, 2021 12:00 am Yeah, thats them....And Drum's right I think they did have six wheelers....Crayford were involved in marketing them but I can't remember who actually made the things.

Halflinger was another handy machine. We'll not mention the other vehicle that shares its engine.
