The shells for those Transits were pressed and built up at our local Ford plant in Southampton and sent by road to Langley. Complete Transit production at Southampton took place from 1972 to 2013 until Henry's lot fucked off to Turkey.
The factory itself down here began as Cunliffe Owen and played a major part in Spitfire production until taken over by Briggs Motor Bodies in 1947 where Ford lorry pressings were made (Ford eventually buying out Briggs and directly ended their contract with Jowett, killing the Javelin). Across the road from the plant lays Southampton (Eastleigh) airport where Gordon Keeble cars were once produced.
Current plans for the moribund and largely demolished Ford Southampton site include Aston Martin distribution.
