I drove about three hundred miles on one of the hottest days of 2003 to go and look at that poor old thing, all based on three conversations with the vendor over the preceding week. He assured me it was a lovely example, well up to the journey home etc etc.. When we finally got there he hadn't got his garage door open more than a couple of feet when I knew we weren't taking it home. It leaked every fluid it could, knocked and smoked on a brief test drive round suburban Canterbury and rounded the proceedings off by losing its brakes so that I nearly put it in the dining room when we got back to his. I still wonder what happened to it, but I suspect it involved no glass and a roof fin.

Sounds like the Consul in Aylesbury I looked at, round about the same time. Probably ended up in the same heat.....

Yes....(assuming that one is actually a Ghia Jolly and not a "recreation") there are steel tubes running through the sills and I think bracing the floorpan too.

Skipscannerscan No.5

Nice old UK-from-new '58 Olds, taken at the Shakedown weekender a few years ago. Was for sale then, about 5K if I recall rightly, it was a bit lumpy looking and I don't know its fate.....DVLA has no knowledge so either the plate is on retention/or the Olds is gone.

Did that have a model name? Rocket?

That one's a Dynamic 88, there was a dearer Super 88 and a longer-wheelbase 98 model. Rocket was really the name of the OHV V8 engine introduced in 1949 but Rocket 88 became a kind of generic name used for most of the early postwar Olds....Only official year I think was 1957 when the 88 range was called Golden Rocket 88.
