I don't think that's too bad; welders these days fall into 2 camps, shite and cheap or expensive and good. Theres no in-between anymore, the skill base has gone.
You forgot 'shit and expensive' which is what is most usual!

Given my MGB sills were 5k I'd add a really fucking expensive to that.
No one wanted to do them, I guess they could make the money on easier jobs.

It's why I learnt to weld. I say learnt, I don't think I have still but my work is passable and the bits seem to stay attached.

That's a win though isn't it as any more would be cosmetics?

To be honest the welding is the easiest bit. It's the crafting of the panel, shaping to fit, alignment and then cleanup to make an invisible repair which is the real skill.

Parts arrived for the Bentley today. Hopefully I can work out what normal gaiter can be used as it looks like it is just a normal boot that goes on the metal plate. I got a half decent discount on this lot as the gaiter should of been £103 plus vat and those o rings £23.50 plus vat. Just under £120 all in which is still an obscene amount for these bits but hopefully now I have replacements I can measure up and sort out part numbers for cheaper replacements if I ever need them again. The clear boot is pretty horrid mind.

That clear gaiter is horrid, I assume it's not that way as what it is covering required constant monitoring?
