I now have front brakes and should have the last remaining bits coming from germany to finish the rears. I will sort out the DVLA paperwork and send it off this week as they should be back at work this week so I was told by a very helpful lady at the DVLA.
I also found this today.

Yay I have now driven it (with the rear brakes locked out so not far) I have got the wipers working as well but I suspect the motor is 6 volt as they run a bit fast.

Voltage regulator and drop the 12v down to 6?

Have you sorted registering it now?

Well I had a nice surprise today in the shape of a nice new V5 so it is now pretty much legal once I get some number plates on it, I really thought it would take a lot longer and it didn't have to be inspected either so no worries about the slightly suspect history.

Great stuff. Enjoy driving it before winter arrives.

Dodgy Irish made number plates have now been fitted and I still can't take it up the road as the poxy gold Silver Shadow is still here with no brakes.

I think I might remove the auto union badge as I am getting fed up of explaining that it isn't a bloody Audi

Just put a big chunky resistor in line and have a 3 position switch. Bingo, two speed wipers.

Works for heater fans too, though running 6V ones of those on 12V makes them actually shift enough air to be useful.

To be honest we've never had a problem using 6v starter motors on 12v with my dad's tractors but it's not the 'proper' way of doing things

I went to take it for a first run today but got as far as reversing out of the workshop and the gear linkage fell to pieces. Luckily just a broken bolt that I will replace in the morning then finally a run up the road.
