I know Liz Truss won't scrap motorway speed limits, but if she did...

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

... then how fast would you drive/ride on a clear motorway?

I've yet to see a clear motorway since moving down South. Anything much above 100 on a bike makes me worry about chain breakage, sudden siezure, punctures etc.

Depends what I'm on/in but 100-120 isn't unreasonable in my opinion.

I'll admit to Vmaxing pretty much every vehicle I've owned but only for a very short time and distance. I remember once being the last car allowed on the M56 before a closure due to roadworks and running my W124 flat out for about three minutes which I suppose is my record for a prolonged flat out run in a car here in the UK.

I remember backing off when maxed out my W124 260e. It got to 140 on the clock at the redline in 4th (it was an auto) then pulled another 5mph before I lifted.

I must be getting old as I never tried the Saab, or either X308 Jag.

VMax.
I'd probably get something more powerful to ensure I was faster than pretty much everything else...

My Welsh friend who lives in Germany said that many don't VMax regularly now. Costs a lot more in fuel and much harder cognitive work.

My late model W124 E200 would sit all day at 128 on the GPS.

That's why I said 100-120mph, past that I find things are starting to happen faster than I'm thinking ahead.

It'd be interesting to know what car can reach the highest speed and still stop within 315 feet which is the Highway Code 70mph stopping distance.
