16 Year olds dream - Aprilia RS50

Post by DodgeRover »

As posted elsewhere on this forum I'm now the owner of possibly the cheapest legit RS50 in England with strict instructions to make sure it's fixed before the kids turning 16 on 5th December and booking CBT deadline.
With that in mind I thought I had better start looking at things.
First up the clutch doesn't work, just no action at the operating arm end.
With the aid of my son (you'll be doing this regularly better learn how while I watch) I pulled the clutch cover expecting carnage, nope, everything looks absolutely fine.
At this point I checked the mechanism and it's also fine, ok so it's going to be a simple fix I said someone must have been messing with the arm and got it on the splines in the wrong position.
I'll just take It off and reposition it.
Who thought this was a good idea?

Aftermarket replacements are available for less than I would have paid someone to TIG this one back together and don't require an age spent cleaning the weld up either
Replacement ordered.

You should buy yourself a similar RS250, one of those strokers kept up with me on a GSXR600 around the Welsh twisties.

Only for a short while. Don't those have a Suzuki engine that does 57 miles to a tank a.k.a. 22mpg?

Brings back memories, friend of mine had one of these through university, I've still got the scar on my wrist where I shorted out my watch strap between the battery + and the frame rewiring the front indicators.

There are a few of them in my local town. Got to love the sound of a 50cc two stroke fitted with an expansion chamber thrashing through the gears to get to 45mph.

My RS250 wasn't too bad on petrol, maybe 30 mpg overall. My GT550 would do about 18mpg when thrashed, which it always was.

I always wanted a 350LC....
Aprilia were absolutely stingy on their warranty repairs, the bike shop I worked at used to supply the Aprilia dealership with discounted Suzuki parts so they could do a proper repair.
