Re: Building the Leg End.
I may have mentioned before that I love series XJ's but I am not a fan of the V12s. I had a series 2 (4.2 in Squadron blue) which was fantastic, and I also had series 3 (4.2 sovereign, in cranberry with doeskin leather) and that was the best car in the world without a doubt (in my humble opinion - fuck off!) apart from... they liked to rust.
This was mainly down to the archaic way they were built, hundreds of small pressings that were welded together that just caused mud and rust traps everywhere. Couple that with lousy paintwork (they installed a new paint shop in the late 70s that was so bad they could only paint three colours, blue, yellow and white) and rust proofing was just a distant dream. Add in a few hundred disaffected BL workers who lived for the strikes and to do damage to the very people who paid their wages, shit poor dealers and the poor old cars were fucked from day one.
I'd love another series 3 (Sovereign for preference) but I am old and fucked now and I hate rust with a passion, so absolutely no-hope.

Belongs with Rover's Brigade Red....Both colours reminiscent to me of the most powerful films I saw as a child in the Sixties - Battle of Britain and Zulu.
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......

Re: Building the Leg End.
V12’s were nice but 12mpg is just insane. Trying to keep one working is just a headache. The injection 4.2 is the best all rounder.
I love XJ’s but only when they belong to someone else. My days with those were hard enough 30+ years ago.

Father Honda lasted 2 years of 10mpg. We had billions of free glasses in the house.

Nergle has a 6 litre one doesn't he?
He's probably not on here as much as he used to be as he can't afford the data costs of posting after the petrol price increases.

Re: Building the Leg End.
Are any v12 easy to own?
I guess possibly the yank ones when run in the USA.

Re: Building the Leg End.
nope. the yanks tend to prefer to pull the V12 out and replace it with some big block V8 instead.
the V12 is too complicated and fragile for them, even when they can afford the fuel!
