Nah, you need to declare all in advance.
It's the registration that's the afters

Yeah it is a nightmare. I have paid the vat but it is only deffered so I suspect it is a case of pay up front then see if you can get it back off the bastards at a later date. Knowing HMRC there is zero chance of that but more chance of being charged twice. It could be really simple but you try reading up on what documents you need to fill in to import just the odd car. Basicaly they are making it so hard that you have to use an agent. Then the only winner is the agent who get paid for doing a few clicks on a mouse. It is all a rip off like royal mail charging 12 quid to process your 1.50 vat payment. I wish I knew what paperwork I should of done first but the system is changing so it is simplified in march '24. As far as I can tell this "simplification" involves anyone importing having to buy a shit load of expensive 3rd party software. Can HMRC not actually create a simple platform for people to make entries on rather than having to go through a 3rd party. Maybe the whole conservative party have shares in the software developers so they can rake it in.

Re: I seem to of done something stupid yet again
After working on a fortunately small number of government I.T. projects I would not trust them to create a simple Excel spreadsheet.
It'd take years just to get a simple spec together; you haven't seen stupidity in action until you've hosted a systems requirements workshop for career civil servants. Maybe I should have done it in Latin even though I can't read or speak it.?

Well it's here. The paint is truly awful and looks far worse without the layer of dust. However after sticking the fuel line in a can and hot wiring the ignition it drove into the workshop. Here are a couple of rubbish pictures . Hopefully I will have a better look over it at the weekend but first impressions are good.

At least you have it and it runs, not a bad start.....I thought of you today whilst reading a 1960s MotorSport on my lunchbreak. Two of the small ads had been ringed in biro by a previous reader - one was a Hotchkiss saloon of this era, the other a Delage. Wonder if he ever bought either?
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......

That paint does look an awful lot like my mum had some left over from painting the front door so moved onto the car....
Good to hear too started and drove, that's got to put it well in front of some previous purchases!

Re: I seem to of done something stupid yet again
HMRC had very simple platforms internally to work with when I started there in the late 90's. Then some wanker comes in and made changes the software, which simply made it difficult to understand, let alone use.
Every subsequent improvement was nothing of the sort, leading to huge errors occurring internally.
I can only imagine how rubbish the systems are for HMRC's "customers" are.
Likewise, here in Spain, there is much bureaucracy involved, even when importing cars from within the EU.
My neighbour started the process to import his Discovery from Belgium. He said he has been quoted €2k by one gestor to get it on Spanish plates, which seems very high to me.

I remember somebody registering a transit as historic in Spain, it was an expensive and difficult process
