I seem to of done something stupid yet again

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

So exports are cheaper and imports more expensive.
What's not to like?
It's obviously a lot more complicated than that but, on balance, is good.

Some exports are cheaper. Foreign tourism is an "export" but will not be cheaper for the folk that do it with US currency for example. Also exports that are comprised of components or raw materials paid for in dollars will have their incremental increase proportionally diminished.

I agree with all that.

One of the key things that I judge it by is why does the USA continually complain that the Chinese Renimbi is being held artificially low to help the Chinese economy.

Having a high exchange rate is not necessarily good though, that's partly what screwed BLs US exports in the late 70s.
Given the choice of a 1.3 Marina or a 5.0 Mustang who in their right mind would choose the BL product?

Edit who in their right mind who isn't a member on the bland already would choose

The prices weren't drastically different then?
I was thinking of the TR7/8 and MGB.

The Septics. They hated those own-grown supersize dinosaurs.

Canadians are by no means Septics but they are pretty Americanised when it comes to buying cars, building houses, streets and talking funny. My sister married a Canuck out in Toronto and has lived out there since 1981. My brother-in-law is nuts about Minis and always has been. His first car was a Cougar XR7 and he couldn't wait to get out of that and buy his first Cooper. I've met some of his barmy mates into their English cars on cruise nights and the like - one or two of them had (Austin) Marinas and presumably chose them instead of one of the Auto Traders-full of thousand dollar Mustangs and Camarobirds that existed in the mid-80s.

I had an enquiry about the DKW today so dug it out of the workshop and after chucking anther 3 gallons of fuel in it and swapping the flat battery I did another walk round video.
