I know all too well the puff of inner pride and satisfaction followed by almost instant piercing by reality that actually the hard work, ingenuity and painstaking re-assembly has made a faulty thing faultier....

I ordered some new springs for the brushes and tried again. No dice. Meanwhile the worm drive is still seized. I don’t want to try heat as the cog is nylon and will no doubt melt.

I decided to use the keep-fit window winder from the parts car - at least for now.

My engineering skills aren’t up to a custom solution so I am use something that works for now.

The parts car put up a bit of a fight - original plan was to remove the drivers door but the lower bolts were too badly seized.

I had a bit more luck with the front quarterlight (vent window in US English). Only one bolt rounded and my cheapo rusty bolt/nut remover actually worked.

I used the opportunity to remove some of the rarer bits of trim that are missing from the 68 as the parts 67 is much more original and less buggered about with.

First time I’ve had a bit of time for a while - keep fit window mech fitted.

The plan is to (confusingly) fit this and the electric window switches Phil A very kindly arranged to have shipped here, pending being able to fit the proper leccy mechanism

The other 3 windaz are still electric but still shit as they have had the original motors and quadrants discarded and been replaced with shit ones.

I did manage to dismantle the one proper NOS mechanism I have this evening- not sure it will do any good but it confirmed the worm bit is seized.

I can imagine Mr Rebel pressing the button and making a mmmrrrrrrr noise as he frantically winds up the window glass....Seems the best plan for now, though - I hate inoperative driver door windows.
