I can't see anything obvious with the cams, they both turn as normal. I'm inclined to put it down to a duff belt.

timing belt and water pump replaced, started first turn of the key :)

note the cunning use of spanners and mole grips to hold those cams in place while I fitted the belt, dipstick down plug one to confirm tdc

and the Exo rewarded me by refusing to start :(

after panicking over the electrics having gone bad, I had a cuppa and a think and traced the problem to the fuel pump - there was power at the pump but no action.

to test this theory, I robbed the working pump off the mx5

and it fired tight into life :)

so a trip was made to see the mazdadudes at darlo and I came back with a used one

I do like those locking tools, reminds me of when I used cableties on the XJR to keep the chains located on the sprockets.

engine sounds a bit tappety (watch out for that fiesta !)



I've since given it an oil flush and it's calmed right down :)
