No locking tools for the cambelt. All done properly with marks to line up. You’ll need to replace the camshaft oil seal though but that’s incredibly easy. Always replace the water pump though. This is because the cambelt tensioner spring and pin locate into it. If the pump fails it’s a right bastard to replace with the belt fitted. The Speedo runs off a speed sensor in the diff rear cover. Check for volts there. There is a fuse as well.

Not the steel wheels, or even all of the alloys. No doubt a real BM perv will elaborate but these 2 styles of wheel we’re shod with TRXes a bit bigger than metric Grannys.

The red one (a 535i SE) has 220/VR55 390 TRX's, the lower one 200/60 VR390's. The wheels are 15.3 inches diameter and it was known for some rough bastards to squeeze 15 inch imperial tyres on. You'\d need about 150 psi and some lube to get them on. :-o

Why has this thread been moved to this part of the forum? I didn't ask to! This was the first signs of moderators getting over zealous on AS... 🙄

Been absorbing as much E28 and E30 (seems similar) knowledge as I can at the moment. Anyone know of a source of E28 520i workshop and wiring diagrams? All I can find on Google is USDM but they never got the M20B20 nor appear to had cars with L-Jetronic, only Motronic (presumably because needing O2 sensor for emissions).

I scored very low on the autie test. I’m cheerful, happy, confident, like meeting new people, chatty and largely sociable. What the fuck am I doing on this forum?

This was a very good read. Takes a lot out of the mystery of an analogue ECU. Essentially this is how it works. May not be very clear to all but essentially it's chopping and changing the waveform from a rotor signal to a injection pwm cycle.

E28’s used LE Jetronic. Similar but different in a few ways.

BMW were the first to use digital engine management in 1979 with Motronic (DME or digital motor electronics).
