Not as good as my old Lt/Wt LR that'd read 1/4 at full and go down to full as the tank rapidly emptied then. The joys of a S2 sender in a S3 by the previous owner.

I had a mk4 escort that did that. Empty was full and full was empty. Way back in 2004 when I was a little bit illegal. A friend borrowed it and didn't understand why it broke down. He still didn't understand when I explained that the tank gauge was reading full,it was reading half when he borrowed it and he hadn't filled it up. The plum.

I broke down in a coach once & when I rung work they said 'didn't you know it runs out at 1/3rd of a tank?' we no, as there was no sticker on the dash & no-one had told me!

I may need to consider selling this sadly. Fuel price rises and doing a few miles in it per week adds up. Really making me grumpy and annoyed as its just had cambelt done,4 new tyres and auxiliary belt. Its so smooth and comfortable but Having to tighten our belts a bit more with the wife's new medical diagnosis which may mean her job is at risk. I'm so fucking pissed. Off at minute.

I think I've talked myself out of selling it. Just don't think I could replace it like for like, low mileage, auto box and good bodywork just to save a few quid at the pumps.
Is lpg still viable? I've seen some say these zetec lumps don't like it though.

It's not worth converting Bub, zetec doesn't like LPG expect 50k between head jobs or 100+k if you fit a flashlube system.

Thats what I've seen too. It's a large sum to find to fuck it up. I will see about selling it if I have to once we know more about my wife's diagnosis.

As we keep telling SiC, just bloody drive it. At your end of the market a working comfy car is a luxury item so don't waste money on it when it's fine as it is.

I think you will be better off in the long run with the Focus as it is better the devil you know. Yes the fuel consumption hurts but work out how much extra it is actually costing per week and it probably won't be that bad as opposed to buying a modern diesel and the chances of it going wrong in a big way. I might have a cheap diesel 407 coming in soon if you do want to go that way. It depends if it is any good as I am being given it as a non runner. It is a 2.0hd and auto though.
