Re: What Car?
Alright so far as I know, mine is a 740 but I've never struggled for parts. C class is a good call too, I hadn't thought of those.mercrocker wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 6:45 pmGood shout. How are they on the unobtanium part frontage?slowanimals wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 6:27 pm Volvo 940? Old enough to be interesting, modern enough to just be a car.

Re: What Car?
If it needs to live outside what about something like a Scimitar, the Princess Anne type not the SS1?
Simple mechanics and should be good for long distances.
I think galvanised chassis have been made for these as well.
Once the MGB is eventually back I might look into one as my next motoring folly.
EDIT: Sorry I got carried away in my enthusiasm and ignored the small matter of what these go for.

Re: What Car?
Scimitar has been under consideration before chez Rocker.....Mrs likes them. They still go for reasonable money on occasion, perhaps not in my budget currently but I might in time be prepared to make some sacrifices....

Once upon a time they would have been worth buying. Can't see the value in them now, to be honest but yeah I'd love one!

I've always found petrol Mondeos to be very good cars, you just need to watch for corrosion.

Re: What Car?
Nearly !!!! Although to be sensible Honda or Toyota neither are remotely interesting or thrilling to drive but will just do car stuff reliably with no issues. Whatever you do though just don't buy a diesel of either. Again the best car to buy is usually the one you already own so might be worth throwing a few quid at the Focus. I would say Kia as well but my other halfs lad has just bought one and it was delivered today. It has no end of faults for a 3 year old car sold by a main dealer who allegedly just serviced and mot'ed it. I told him to buy a Honda or Toyota but he wanted something more interesting. It is a Proceed GT 1.6 turbo which looks great on paper but do you really need a heated steering wheel and some fancy sound system that makes it sound sporty.DodgeRover wrote: ↑Wed Jan 06, 2021 9:02 pm Would 4k buy some sort of Rolls or Bentley, or maybe a Cadillac?

Re: What Car?
My only input here on the basis of having two alfas, a fiat and two VWs over the last few years would be to avoid fiat/Alfa and VW.

Re: What Car?
@panhard65....That's disappointing after fetching the car back so far....Guess you'll have some fettling to do.....
Much as I would love a late 90s GM sedan or a nice Jag I really need to consider future expenditure and try and minimise it. The 4K is money I would ideally like to have on hand to improve my other three vehicles now that I have no disposable income. I am happy(ish) to keep the Focus but not if it is going to throw up a handful of error codes every few months. Anyway I'm picking it back up in the morning so will see what the bill is and more importantly what it needed.
Scores at the moment seem pegged towards Honda Accord but I'm going to put myself in a happy position of having money available should something tasty come along like an older Volvo, Saab or the like.
I know lockdown has been good for obtaining Bentleys but I would be reluctant to buy something now that can't be fully enjoyed!
