Re: What Car?
Apart from the diesels. They are most likely one of the worst engines anyone has ever built with catastrophic reliability. They are so bad as to be considered unfixable.

Re: What Car?
I thought it was the Subaru diesels that were catastrophically unreliable too.

Re: What Car?
I've heard lots of horror stories about diesel Subarus.
A pal was so keen to get a diesel outback, he had one shipped up from London. Bargain he thought. It was carted off to the scrappy 6 months later.
Happened to be up at Kinkersaab's with Tam a couple of years ago and he had two dead diesel Subarus in the 'breaking' corner. He vowed he would never touch another one.

- I scored very low on the autie test. I’m cheerful, happy, confident, like meeting new people, chatty and largely sociable. What the fuck am I doing on this forum?

This is the most sensible thing I’ve read for ages. Happy wife happy life and all that.mercrocker wrote: ↑Mon Jan 11, 2021 9:03 pm I really don't have to care what Mrs Rocker drives as long as she is happy with it.

Re: What Car?
I have to agree with that.
My missus main car is as Skoda Roomster. It looks like a car designed by a class of five year olds having a sugar rush and then the paper was crumpled up.
It's very good as a car but I want a bit more than that, obsolescence, a strong tendency to rust etc.etc. I don't actually but they seem inseparable from the cars that I do like.

Re: What Car?
There are only two problems with them. The cranks snap across a web, and the crankcase distorts enough for the main bearings to fail. Apart from that...Drum wrote: ↑Tue Jan 12, 2021 12:07 am I've heard lots of horror stories about diesel Subarus.

Re: What Car?
I watched a top gear or something the other day with the roomster on. They said the front end was polo and the back end was golf. I nearly bought one new in '08 but bought a fabia instead.
What I noticed on the tv was the rather large swage line bit that encroches on the front windows. Looks fine from outside but I'm not sure how it would affect visability.

Re: What Car?
I've got a 2005 Forester that I bought last February from a nice chap on the beige (there are a few).
It's not particularly large. It does struggle to better 30 mpg though.
I love it.
