Probably the first car I’ve ever had that people would actually consider interesting/remotely classic - I like mundane 90s/00s toss

It’s a Fiat Panda. 38 years old, left hand drive and currently unregistered. Not just any Panda though, it’s a ‘30’. 30 rampant horses from the 2 cylinder 652cc powerhouse normally found in a 126 or the occasional 500.

A previous owner was a little naughty and put the ID from a later U.K. car on it - I’ve reversed that and have sorted out the paperwork including NOVA etc so it’ll be properly registered as soon as it has a MOT.

I’ve sorted out the odd wheel at the rear and fitted a set of new ditchfinders on the rear axle in the process.

Now also has a passenger side mirror, one more item crossed off the pre-MOT list!

Well that looks utterly unappealing, so should prove popular!

Engine wise it runs a bit rough - doesn’t like idling much when it’s warm and off choke. I’ve changed the air filter, plugs and leads so far and it’s better but not great.

Going to strip down and service the carb - I have absolutely no fucking idea what I’m doing, still looking for the OBD port :D

I once had the misfortune of working on a 126, I don't remember it being very technical.

Has it got two levers between the seats for the choke & starter? or did it get posher* in the Panda.

Starts on the key. Choke lever is by the steering wheel.

The bodywork looks incredibly good condition for a Fiat of that age.

Yep. Little rust blobs on both doors but nothing to worry about. Underside looks good from what I’ve seen so far.

How uninterestingly normal.

The washers are operated sort of manually - you create pressure by pressing the “button” on the steering column, no electric pump.
