Approximately 550 miles covered in Allegro t'other day, down and up the Kingdom, a most successful raid. Keeping up with and exceeding modern traffic, a steady 60-70 and over 40 to the gallon. Not bad for a 46 year old Aggro eh? The only downside was the imbecilic clots on the radio none of whom I wanted to hear, and Classic FM doesn't always do it. Ah well, I made it there and back in safety.

Is the rear seat base lose? I don't think I ever saw an Allegro back in the day with a secure rear seat squab.

No. There is a secure arrangement by way of a 90 degree 'angle iron' on the central hump which the seat base fits behind. You have to shove the seat base back enough for the inner seat structure to sit behind this bracket. Not a particularly difficult task.

I like the Allegro - such an optimistic name.

Every time I see an Allegro this colour I'm taken back to the trudge back to school from the sports fields, dawdling all the way to look at all parked cars on people's drives. One was an Allegro like this and I liked seeing it as although it was fairly old even then it was owned by a proud elderly chap and incredibly well looked after. Another was a brown Hillman Hunter with holes in it.

This time having suffered the usual shouty teachers and cross country running in the pissing rain I was utterly, utterly miserable. The rain had cleared for the return trudge and as I passed the Allegro saw it was on axle stands for the old man to work on the front suspension. He was putting quite a bit of effort into it when suddenly something on the car went bang, followed by the clank of a dropped spanner and a cry of, "OH CHUFFING NORA!" which was so heartfelt and so pained it has stuck with me ever since.

It’s useful having four bins sometimes.

Very lucky you didn't spin 180 degrees and end up on a verge there mate.
As I suspected I was right about everything.

I saw a late '71 like this yesterday in the Sheffield sunshine, Limeflower on a K plate. Lovely condition as well.
