They're interesting now but at the time were just 'meh'. They looked like a big Avenger and were terrible rot boxes as well.

One of our local shopkeepers had one.
As the Rev says it just looked like an inflated Avenger.

A mate bought a 2 litre. They all had vinyl roofs and automatic as I recall. It was an odd thing for a young single fella to buy and half of us took the piss out of him, the other half (which included me) were actually quite impressed. It was a lot of motor for the money, I can't remember how much it actually was but you wouldn't have got more than a very shagged vanilla Mk3 Cortina for the same price.

Considering that just about anything was better than a Mark 3 Cortina at more than 3 years old, the 180 success was assured*.

We had custody of one, supposedly the oldest surviving UK example for a while after the mate who owned it passed away. It had been off the road years but kept undercover.

It was certainly a good looking car for 1970.

The interiors were fabulous, the oily bits apparently less so judging by the letters in the Technical Advice Bureau of old Car Mechanics magazines. I think the engine was French to keep the frogs happy after the British arm won the styling competition, and the engine was only ever fitted to these particular cars.

Sold it either last year or the year before to a chap down in Kent who was intent on returning it to the road. I don't recall his name but he'd got a few Simcas too.

As mentioned in another topic, one evening I wound down the passenger window on the Allegro only for the glass to drop down into the door out of sight and reach. To repair it I first turned to the WSM as I've never had the door cards off.

It was a simple procedure. Remove the window winder handle and door pull same as on other BL cars and the opening handle escutcheon, then carefully prise the door card away.

Don't think the door cards have ever been off by the looks of it. Can you see the cause of the fault yet?

Yep, the little screw had worked loose and fell out. This screw holds the window side channel and without it the channel had moved forward allowing the glass to drop out.

An easy fix, which is what I like.

I have just noticed some of the photos are sideways despite appearing upright on my laptop after downloading them from email. This seems to be an unpleasant quirk of Windows 10. Before, using Vista, I would download the photos from email and they would require rotating correctly, save automatically then be correct for uploading. Not so any more. Sigh.
