Re: Squire's voitures
Bloody excellent, those Brooklands Books. Should never have sold my copies, I must have had about 20 titles. Still, they fetched a bit.....

Must be a rarity, I've never seen a copy.

Re: Squire's voitures
I did a bit on the scrapper this evening, most importantly draining the back axle ready for removal. I wanted to see what would come out after undoing the drain plug, as this would give me an indication of if it had been looked after, although its running condition won't be known until I fit it. The oil came out golden and quite clean, and there was plenty of it, so I was pleased with that. I could undo the drain plug with just the breaker bar - another good sign.
I am going to commence stripping it in earnest next week. Axle will be the most troublesome job, the engine piss easy and the gearbox only slightly more difficult. My station wagon is going in for major surgery on the 26th, and it will be in for a few months, which will give me ample time to make a good runner out of the scrap 948. It will be about time too, as the 1098 in the station wagon, although gallantly soldiering on, has a terrible oil and water habit, and the filler cap speaks for itself!
It will not be a moment too soon, but I like how they go on seemingly indefinitely despite an advanced state of disrepair.

Re: Squire's voitures
Oooh nasty....Mine used to be nearly that bad until I sorted out the breather arrangement and stopped using it for short journeys. I was reading something in the Minor mag this month about cack-eyed modern head gaskets, too. I'm sure like me you have stocks of proper old stuff (Unipart/BMC etc) but its worth knowing exactly how rubbish some of the new stuff is.

Re: Squire's voitures
Aye I clocked that about the gaskets amongst all the other shit in print. This engine is fucked and there's no two ways about it. Don't think for a moment that EP90 is going to waste.
