Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid is what I was thinking of - EDTA.

The battery's sad on the Volvo at the mo, worth a punt at that money as I've never tried it.

How do you get that sort of jollop into these new-fangled sealed ones though?

Sometimes you can remove the plugs from the top of the sealed for life ones, usually when you do you find they need the electrolyte topping up.mercrocker wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 8:37 pm How do you get that sort of jollop into these new-fangled sealed ones though?
Tried EDTA but maybe not enough and I failed to revive one with a shorted out cell.

Re: Squire's voitures
Been thinking about my battery troubles today. The hydrometer reading on each cell was 1.220 which indicates half-charge, despite being as charged as I can get it. I have some original bottled acid left over so am going to draw off some of the electrolyte from each cell and top up with the acid, which will hopefully raise the specific gravity. Not sure what the actual outcome will be, but I think it's worth a try.

Re: Squire's voitures
I have commenced the process known as 'cycling' the battery as detailed in the WSM, although modern science suggests it can actually be harmful. I left the headlights on since 4 pm and am just going to switch them off, they are still bright so the battery is not being totally depleted which is undesirable. Then in the morning I will put it on charge.
