Good luck with that. As an example, it took me three hours to bleed one of these after a master cylinder swap. They are bastards.
Obtain the correct pressure bleeding thing.

That is what I would try just clamp the hose before taking it off and dont let it run out of fluid. Make sure the bleed nipple is at the highest point as well

Re: 1985 BMW E28 520i
This sounds like it's not going to be a fun job! Did just watch a video where someone used a brand new, clean oil can to pump brake fluid into the bleeder.
What about using the slave as a pump? I.e. push in the actuator rod with the bleeder open. Then release the rod with the bleeder closed.

Re: 1985 BMW E28 520i
Bought new slave
Cobbled together pressure bleeder from eezibleed caps and Sealey pressure bleeder.
Replaced the remote master reservoir with shiny new one and fresh pipe. Pipe was a tad on the narrow side, so took a bit of wrestling to get on the nipple. At least it won't be coming off any time soon.
Unbolted old slave. This was soaked on the plunger end. Definitely the seals have failed and this is the bit that was leaking.
Double checked it was identical. New one had the plunger out slightly further but I think that's because the rubber end is not fully pushed in.
A lot of swearing was required to remove the union. Ended up putting a clamp on the body and tapping a small bar attached to a crows foot. Thankfully it broke the attachment without breaking or damaging the pipe. I was praying it wasn't going to do any damage as I really didn't want to source a replacement pipe.
Attached new master. At this point I bled it. Firstly by pushing on the plunger with the bleeder facing up and opening the bleed nipple. Did this a couple of times. Then used the pressure bleeder with the bleed nipple pointing up again. Didn't take too much fluid to have fluid flowing out.
Bolted new slave on. Took a bit of faff to get the top nut on.
Then went for a short test drive. Gear changes felt no different but crucially the fluid is at the same level.
I'll go for a longer test drive and similar route to what I did earlier today before replacing the slave. If that keeps the level identical then I know it's all good. Not much else it could be though. Flexi is fine and master is not leaking out either on the bellows end or cylinder end. Thankfully!

I'd love to make a profit on my motely cars but I haven't got the patience! I've been back looking at Minis again.DodgeRover wrote: ↑Fri Apr 23, 2021 10:00 pm Good news, can we expect this to be advertised for a joke in FOADs name on AS for £5995 soon?
I really don't need another project, but I've been eyeing this one up and half tempted to bid...

I'd put money on the non starting being either fuel pump or condenser. If this is what the chap calls significant rust, then the rest might actually be alright.
With the weather getting nicer and days getting longer, doing a small project outdoors doesn't feel as bad. Must order the panels I need for the Dolomite. Then have half a chance of maybe finishing that sometime.

Re: 1985 BMW E28 520i
I would be a bit careful with that Mini as it could be someone has already checked the reason for the non start and it is not something easy. I am getting cynical in my old age and have a trader who keeps bringing shit to me that he has bought at auction thinking it is an easy fix. Invariably someone has already done all the easy things and given up when it looks like it will get expensive. My latest Clio is a good example it failed the mot on emissions as well as a few other bits, they fixed the other bits and tried to sort the emissions with the easy options. In the end it was a burnt valve but they gave up and flogged it when they started to suspect that. Again they just pleaded ignorant of what the fault was. That Mini does look reasonable but I suspect he is a bit of a pretend dealer.
