Onslow's gone French.

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Onslow's gone French.

Post by bub2006 »

Right folks. Here we are. First of all,the thread title. My Mrs often refers to me as onslow especially during summer with a baseball cap and a vest on and this car is what I'd imagine he would drive today.
Next up the car. It's a 2.0 LX with 117k on clock. I thought an LX was low spec but this seems well equipped with electric driver height adjustment,4x electric windows, electric mirrors, variable intermittent wipers and air con which surpassingly still works.
The previous owner had it for about 3 years covering not far off of 50 thousand. He's had all new shocks, springs fitted, brakes, handbrake cable and a clutch in his ownership. Only selling it as his company have provided him with a 63 plate diesel insignia. I'd have refused and kept the Mondeo to be honest. It's got a cracked rear bumper (quelle surprise) but he's got another bumper I can have FOC but need to collect it from Sutton. Drives really nice, can't hear the engine at all and it's smooth as Frank Sinatras voice. It's very comfy and rather on the large side which is probably going to be an issue doing deliveries but it's make do with best I could get for not alot of money.
The pickings were slim for a limited budget within 60mile round trip. The options were a transit connect with high mileage and a noisy engine for 200 quid more, numerous chavved up cars being sold in Sheffield with the car parked literally on someone's front lawn or the Mondeo. I chose the latter. Doesn't clean up too bad after a wash either.

Oh and to add,the wheel trims do need frisbeeing into the canal.

Well mondeos must have something going for them as they were or are the staple of choice for two litre banger racing as they were strong, quick and parts were plentiful.

This one is certainly quick compared to atra and it feels quicker than the focus too but I don't thrash cars around as there's no point and only end up drawing attention to yourself. Official figures say the Mondeo has 15 mph top end more than focus and 2 sec quicker to 60 but the focus being auto saps a lot of power.

That looks surprisingly smart and I quite like the trims, certainly looks less of a car featured in Police Interceptors than it would do with no wheel trims.

I've never been a fan of aftermarket trims though really. Just something I don't like. I've seen plenty worse trims than these though in all honesty.
Overall it's nat bad, back bumper lets it down more than anything else really bar a bit of bubbling starting on passenger door.
Had a x plate Mondeo a few years ago and this drives a lot better but it feels huge inside. Admittedly I have come from an astra but it's certainly wider than the focus we have.
