Re: Hello Hal, we have a problem.
I remember my first ever 3 Series. It was an E21 316 and I fitted front fog lamps (not wired up) to hide the fact that it was a 316. A friend described it as a heavy Mk2 Escort with a big ego. It felt special though.LynehamHerc wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 6:56 pm Sadly.
What a way for the Batmobile firm to go.

I'm trying to remember every BMW I've owned and I have to say that they all felt a little bit special. I don't mean special in a mongy way either.

Re: Hello Hal, we have a problem.
My first, indeed only, BMW was also an E21 316, in 1984 I went one better though and fitted the front grilles and lamps from a 320 along with the tacho-equipped gauge cluster! They did feel special and engrained in me a love for basic but well-made and driveable German cars that put me behind a three pointed star for 20 years.
I have zero interest in any 21st century product from either manufacturer, though.....

I remember in 1983 my next door neighbour ordered a new 316 and saying that it'd take a while as they were built to order. It was so much more special, if that's the term, than a 2 litre Sierra or 1.8 Cavalier that he could have bought instead. I guess that it showed more taste might be an appropriate comment.

And you chose an Orion Ghia Injection over a 316?LynehamHerc wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 7:29 pm I remember in 1983 my next door neighbour ordered a new 316 and saying that it'd take a while as they were built to order. No, it was a cast off from a salesman who got sacked that was an interim car whilst I was at war with the Finance Director and Chief Accountant. Needless to say, as I'd only recently qualified, I lost but it gave me a kick up the arse to get out of there.
