Le Mans classic '23

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Le Mans classic '23

Post by panhard65 »

I know most of you couldn't give a shit but I do enjoy my little trips to Le Mans. I will stick proper photos up when I am home. Over night ferry to Roscoff and I got here for a late lunch. France is fucking expensive and not helped only getting 250km before having to fill up. The hearse gets loads of attention from the French and one of them actually knew what it was (a Spanish Dodge, they all kind of know the hearse thing). If you like classic cars driven like they should be then you really ought to try and get here one year. The program promises 800 racing cars. There are 6 main grids racing all with 70 plus cars. They allow period replicas so lots of really special tin flying round. The Cadillac le monster is out again and actually looked slightly competitive this year. Have a couple of photos from under the gazebo attached to the back of the hearse. Shame about the fences but you can't get much nearer than this to camp.

There are also about 4 supporting races that include the group C mental stuff and even the more modern 2000's Bentley and Audi winners.

It does sound good except for the major disadvantage of being in froggyland.

There are probably more English speaking people here than french. It always used to be the biggest British Motorsport event of the year. Just been watching the Ferrari bread van being drifted through the Porsche curves. You would of thought he might of learnt from last year when it had a pretty hefty shunt.

I am envious, I have always wanted to go to this but never get around to it. I last went to Le Mans back in 1986, fun times were had. Enjoy your weekend.

Not been to LeMans for a few years, but off to the Bol D'or in September.

I was made aware of the high prices in France on my ride through it in May, I always remember it being cheap for food, wine and beer, but seems that is no longer the case.

Enjoy the racing.

It really is worth the trip. I messed up slightly this year as previously you could get in the grandstand for free with an aco membership. This year grandstand seats were extra and I hadn't booked one. The camping pitch was just about perfect though. I woke up this morning and watched the group C race lying in bed, just had to roll the blinds up. The mobile signal is pretty shit here so you will have to wait for the pics

On my way home now with an overnight stop in Laval. I have been meaning to snap this old juva a few times and finally stopped today. There was also a very dusty 19 16 valve in the showroom.

This towing twat nearly took the front off the hearse cutting me up as both lanes turned left.

Went to the first one and to my regret haven't been back since - mainly because of rock and roll commitments be they financial or date-wise. I have to echo M. le Panhard and say if you have any sense of love of cars you owe your inner spirit a trip at least once....

The owners club parking area alone is worth the trip, never mind the opportunity to see actual Bentley/Bugatti dicing at night. No dressing up tossers with 1980s Aquascutum masquerading as "Fifties" - just proper full-on old school motorsport. Fantastic....
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......
