The car you always promised yourself (but never got around to buying)

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Stupidly cheap in the US. I turned one down last year, built by the owners club, for a guy with cancer who passed.
Completely restored by light-bulb sniffer types for $26k. That was an exception, but at least in MN, there seem to be an inordinate number around.

For me, a 356A has always been just out of reach. Spent too long trying to get one; by that time, the second best, an early 911 was out of reach too.
I guess my other is a Lotus Esprit with a Tesla drivetrain.

This is a tricky one - I always wanted an e-type or a pagoda Merc but realistically never likely to have one unless I win the lottery.

I never had a lottery win car either - there are so many I’d like to try I imagine if I did win a few million I’d hire some.

In terms of stuff I could have afforded but didn’t - at present I can only really think of a battered motor home of some kind, and a range of motorbikes.
2005 Land Rover Discovery SE Manual
2003 Mercedes E320 Estate
1968 AMC Rebel SST Convertible
1967 AMC Rebel SST Convertible (for parts)
1994 Fleetwood Colchester 1850 EB

Hoping for roffle win :)

A Range Rover. I’ve never actually owned one and I’m not sure why. I’ve driven lots, in my line of work you can’t avoid them and I’ve enjoyed every one of them. Thing is I never want the ones I can afford , I remember thinking a wobbly 2 door whiney transfer box would be awful when my daily drive was a 91 3.9 Brooklands. By the time I saw sense they’d gone out of my price range and I didn’t fancy a 80’s or 90’s one even when my brother offered me his 4.2 LSE for £1200.Same with P38’s wouldn’t touch one with yours when they were everywhere for £800, now I find myself looking at £5,000 2.5 diesels thinking that’s good value.
Which brings us up to date, I need a big estate for a trip in August , there’s L322 Range Rovers everywhere starting at £1000, I know they’re brilliant cars, just watched the latest Harry’s Garage where he and Jeremy Clarkson both wax lyrical and say they’ll never sell them , but, but…
Don’t worry in 5 years when they quadruple in value, I’ll want one. I’m slightly concerned that my ever loving and long suffering wife might buy me one for my 60th in a few of months, not that I wouldn’t appreciate it. She and my daughters almost bought me a Harley Davidson for my 50th before my brothers intervened so hopefully she’ll ask them for advice if she does.

FTFY

(Given that some dickhead designed the electrics.)

I can sort of understand why owners like them, when they should of just got a Toyota Land Cruiser.

I've had all of the cars I wanted (plus ones that weren't even on my want list) bar one. I still want a Bristol, preferably a 407. I have missed the boat, they are now house price money (to someone like me) also the factory that would make/source bits to keep the old ones on the road has gone.
I've come close a few times but never been brave enough when they were in my price range.
Luckily I've never fancied anything really stupid.

Prrrph. I have very modest tastes, as you know.

The three that I'd still like to tick off but, in all reality wont, are

Renault 16. I was rather jealous of Junkman's - and the collection escapade. Even pre-covid they were on my absolute limit of the sort of money I'm happy to throw away.

Mk2 Granada Saloon. Black. Exactly like this.

Escort RS2000 Drop Snoot.

The fancy pants stuff just doesn't give me the horn at all. Twas ever thus.

A black Mk2 Granada like that isn't complete without a Chief Constable standing next to it explaining that they're doing all that they can to catch the killer/root out corruption.
