MODERN Saabs- any good??

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Saloons are pointless. Estates are vastly superior - they drive the same and are 1000 times more useful.

FTFY.

Having said that, you have an Austin 1100.

Actually I see quite a few younger people driving them. 20 to 40 something men. Moggies attract the women drivers, usually the hippy or alternative type.

1100 is now sold and will be gone soon. 😟

Thank fuck for that. I know you liked it but that 'paint job' and comedy hydro pipe repair meant it was never going to be a nice one. Correct decision to offload it.

You should keep the 520i though. You'll grow to really like that, and it's a good investment.

The paint colour was ace and I loved it. Much better than doom and gloom that many come in. Not original but who cares - plenty of those that are original about. Paint is easy to sort if someone was a stickler for accuracy - hardly like having had bodywork chopped about. Its a nice car to drive and those that I passed, invariably made them jolly to see it.

Hydro pipes held pressure just fine and has been for many years. It could however be improved by using brass plumbing compression fittings. They're more than up to the job of the pressures involved.

I'll see how I get on with the 520i. Possibly a bit too sophisticated for my tastes and I'll probably end up with something pre-80s British again.

However I appear to be the right demographic for the BMW as classic cars go. Most car loving males between 25-45 give their big approval to it. I also quite like the scruffiness and patina of it. Again many now have been restored to pristine - scruffy ones scrapped. Looks proper 80s/90s movie baddie car.

It's just another 4 years and I reckon it'll start rocketing in price once it hits that magic Tax and Tested exempt period. No idea if I'll end up keeping it that long though.

Wilsons, Newcastle. It appears to have a SRS issue, but the dealer entering it was once a SAAB dealer, a good sign.
