Autoglass

Post by AutoshiteBoy »

This is a tale of woe. Back in late June I cracked the screen of my Merc. I'd been to the builder's merchant and was leaving when a tipper truck through a stone up and it chipped the black area of the screen. Any damage in the black area and its game over for the glass. The crack rapidly spread.

Autoglass was my insurer's repairer and so I paid them £100 and was subsequently bombarded with texts about the order, the delivery, the fitment, etc. Bloke comes to fit and and then, once the old glass is out, he refused to fit it. He claimed the screen cracked due to corrosion in the frame and refused to fit the new one. I inspected the frame and disagreed. It was not bad at all. So after much heated discussion, he fitted the new screen. And cracked it. He couldn't fuck off fast enough. So fast he left one of his tools on the driveway. He didn't reassemble the surrounding screen trim..

Two weeks later and I've got to call Autoglass to see what's going on. On 01 Aug (this has been going on a month now) the new screen arrives and is fitted. The fitter is a warranty fitter and he complained to my missus about the job the previous butcher has done. He also discloses the previous fitter had broke the trim around the windscreen, but the replacement trim is ordered.

Roll forward a month and I call Autoglass to see what's happening. After 20 minutes of repeatedly being placed on hold, I've got to hang-up. So I email the complaints dept. 10 days later and I get an email. The trim no longer is manufactured by Mercedes. So I contact them to say Merc will manufacture parts for 25 years. It's the brand. I get another call to say what they need is manufactured and they will be in touch very soon. That was a week ago. Fucking raging.

They sound like proper tradesmen.
Autoglass fuck up.
Autoglass fuck off.

They're also big in America but under a different name and with the same catchy advert tune.

Autoglass rent the unit next to me and they are useless. They will only do insurance work and won't fit screens for cash. National windscreens are the same as I needed a screen in a Transit the other day and had a right job finding someone to fit one for cash as it was for a trade customer without glass cover. It turned out whoever fitted the last screen hadn't fitted it properly which was why it had cracked.

They got a third party contractor in for my TT. I presumed because it's a tricky install and their fitters fuck it up too often. Even then they didn't fit the scuttle cover on properly and broke part of its fixings.

Our MK3 MX5 they took two attempts to fit. First time the trim was way too small and left a three finger gap on the edge. So I complained and got them to do it again. Second time they used genuine trim and it was better. Still wasn't very well aligned.

They refused to do my Midget years ago even with glass cover as the screen surround was too difficult to disassemble.
