There's bondo simply for the sake of bondo.

Looks like a fair bit of the car is gonna end up back to bare metal, and be started over again so it doesnt look like sand dunes.

Entire panels half an inch thick to cover 5p sized grot spots. Of course some of it was half an inch thick to hide the fact the rear quarters and door bottoms were all tack welded plates over the original rotten panels...

Add enough filler & you don't need to buy lowering springs.

I have a feeling I know what this layer of filler is about.

There's a CB antenna wire and groundblock hanging down inside the boot.

There's no external hole but there are some globs of filler in the trunk. I didn't look up inside, maybe I should have.
Trouble was, Doctor Bondo was using the new boot floor panel to mix bondo on and it's all sharp, didn't want to lay over backwards on it to look...

Yup, there we go.

The drip rail holed in the corner by the seam on both sides- unpainted metal throughout the trunk so that moisture took the inner brace panel with it on the left side. So I need to recreate that. The drip rails are full of filler too.

This car seems particularly typical- run along a panel and it's totally rock solid for 90% the way and the rest is a hole.

The rest of the repairs will be filling in pinholes. All the water traps are rusty. Chrysler knew how to make cars rust, that's for sure.

I checked and I do have 220V service in the shed, so that opens up a much larger array of welding machines.

I've got my eye on a nice Chinese copy of a more expensive machine that can do arc, mig, gasless and lift-TIG, digitally controlled.

Spotweld drills are handy, too ...

It'll be interesting to see what your choice is. I don't really need one as my old Sealey is great but I want one. Mine isn't the most portable of things.
