Also aux belt tensioner failed. Looked original so can't really complain. Yet.
Still drove back from forest fine. No further damage.
Polite 'alternator fault' message on display. Epitomy of genteel.

Update.
New tensioner, bracket and belt. Nice.
Transmission day. Lovely, can't wait.

Also decided to do diffs and gearbox oil at same time as transfer is drained to change the VC. Because you can never have too much 80/90 or DIii....

Yeah, that's a fair amount. Gearbox drain...explains why it's not the best change in the world...

The old 'new' and the old old.
Suffice to say, one works. Thankfully, the one I fitted.
Huge increase in performance and economy (lol and yes, in that order) incoming and far, far less chance of breaking transfer box or a halfshaft.

So n/s/f cv joint starts to click. Unsurprisingly as its one of the hard concertina types with no clip on it (anymore).
Repacked with grease, refitted proper clip.
Tried it down road - now has a bit of a wobble/shudeer it didn't before.
Got to love a P38.
Replaced the new injector spill pipe with another one, without a split in it.
Found slight bubbling from no1 injector base. Washer i think. or seal. or everything.
Drove it to football.
Have a random spot.
