Horrible Histories

Post by Warren t claim »

I'm just pondering on where you lot draw the line?

Ex police?
Ex taxi?
Salvage categories?

I mention this because earlier today I was offered an 04 plate X5 3.0 petrol and LPG for £1200. After an hour the price dropped down to a grand.

The seller needed cash fast to cover a bill and was pretty honest that it undoubtedly had a police ANPR drugs marker against it.

So what are the implications of that?
Would it still have it after changing ownership for example?

As long as you're legit while driving it, a marker wouldn't be a problem. Would it?

I don't think I would be too worried about any history category as long as, if it affected the value, it was reflected in the price. I suppose you wouldn't want a car associated with some kind of hateful wanker likely to draw out revenge attacks on it, though. I've had a Mini that must have fallen into that category - a couple of local blokes used to flash the "V"s up and wanker signs. I caught up with one of them who admitted I wasn't who he thought it was driving the car. It didn't seem to be the folks I bought it off either so fuck knows what the story was there - he just said a bloke he was going to kill used to drive it. Charming.

I know some are put off by a death car but to be quite honest humans tend to die just about anywhere and I've owned an ambulance so can't say it would bother me.....

The silly thing is people don't mind ambulance's to convert to campers but run a mile from a hearse. It is extremely rare for any one to die in a hearse but common in an ambulance. I will buy anything if it is the right price or something I have taken a fancy to.

I'd avoid all enterprise rentals and ex-police stuff, in addition to former write-offs and minicabs (I won't believe they're not clocked).

Police markers are normally removed with change of ownership. Especially if you have it registered to a real address, tax and test etc.

The minicabs thing reminds me of a mk2 cavalier that one of our trade customers brought in for mot some years ago. He was really pleased with himself saying how he got it cheap and it was really a good car. I was a bit gutted bursting his bubble when I clocked the reg and realised it was one my dad bought out of the salvage auction and pop riveted a rear 1/4 on it. As if the write off wasn't enough when my dad sold it the new owner wanted it for mini cabbing, it couldn't get much worse than that one. I never used to get involved with my dads motors as he was keen on the odd salvage motor always repairing it himself. The MG Maestro that he painted was a prime example with the runs and drips on the front bumper.

I should know better but I once bought a mk2 1.6D cavalier that was ex cab and ex District nurse. That thing had gone round the clock so many times...
