Occasionally, you'd get hearses and the limousines going through the auction. Once there was a very old Royce going through and we got one of the traders to lie in the back as it went into the 'ring and rise up as it was under the rostrum. Not sure I'd trust the filth/DVLA to get the marker removed and speaking from my youth, getting stopped every 5 minutes soon wears thin even when you are 100% legal.
On the other hand there seemed to be a lot more Police about in those days.

Best offer I had was £5000 for an Audi S5. The catch was the owner had made some enemies and the driver was liable to be shot at the wheel.
