I miss my Volvo.
It was the right car but the wrong example. For £300 the 118bhp 2.0 was tolerable, the autobox with no lockup I could have lived with, the myriad of electrical maladies was only of minor importance and it shitting PAS fluid all over the girlfriend's parents monoblocking merely an endearing character trait. The fact it was rotten as a pear and must have been getting bent MOTs for a decade rendered it irredeemable.
I'd like another, but a decent estate is £2k and rising fast so I reckon I've missed the boat.
There are quite a few other cars I'd love to own at some point. Off the top of my head I'd like a Moggy Minor (pref Traveller), a Rover P6, VW Type 3 (pref notchback), MGB GT, something pre-war, a Standard 9 or summat, and some sort of big pre 1980 Yank (pref a station wagon).
All of the above are fairly pricey though so would have to jumped on as full resto jobs, so workshop facilities would have to be available which could take some considerable time for me to acquire...

Rotten as a pear? Looks pristine.
As I suspected I was right about everything.

Externally it had one gammy wing and a bit of rot on a rear door frame. One owner since 1993, and he'd not skimped on servicing and repairs, there was a huge stack of receipts and bills.
Underneath the front floors were rotten, front inner arches were rotten, chassis rails were a myriad of MOT patches, rear jacking points collapsed into the sills on use, centre crossmember was rotten on the outer edges, rear inner arches were rotten up into the boot floor.
Looks like the old boy had religiously undersealed it every year, the rust was buried under an inch of the stuff. It was on ramps for less than 30mins to decree it not worth the effort...

Yes tbf that sounds rotten. Floor rot seems to happen in foggy areas.

Must be harder for MOT testers to check the rot forming through the fog.treehugger wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 6:23 pm Yes tbf that sounds rotten. Floor rot seems to happen in foggy areas.

I miss my old kadett c coupe that I fitted manta gte running gear into. Pretty little cars.
I’d like a manta A one day too.
Less annoying tag line.

Just when I thought I was out they dragged me back in.

Me too, but I'm too old, grumpy and skint to pay what they seem to go for now. I had a 2-door 318i a good few years ago now, £225 with tax & eight months ticket. Genuinely one of the most fun cars I've ever had, which probably says more about them than it.
