Wasn’t the 400 series basically Renault?AutoshiteBoy wrote: ↑Fri May 07, 2021 9:44 pmI couldn't initially think of any car I've hated driving, I find pleasure in them all. Then you said Volvo 340 and I thought 'fuck yeah'. Awful things with horrendous handling. Then there were 240s, 740s, I hated them all. Loved the 400-series however.
The other things I hated were Nissan Sunny. Especially without PAS. Otherwise, I've found pleasure in every car, van and bus I've driven.
Can I add Porsche Boxster?

Re: Cars you hated and hope not to see again
Hated is a strong word. There are a few I have actively disliked, but that would be that particular car, not the make or model. I had a VW Polo that just didn't want to live, it was OK when it was going, but spent a lot if it's second year of life being dragged back to the main dealer, have had others that were fine.
I had one Volvo 240 estate that I couldn't get on with, I've had them before and after that one, all the others were fine.
My last Land Rover 90 hated me, on paper it was a nice specification, the reality was that it was very needy and I much preferred its predecessor. Will probably have another at some point.

PT Cruiser.
When they first came out, I was working in Michigan.
Managed to bag one as a rental and with much excitement, found it to possibly be the worst car I have ever driven.
Gutless, no feedback through either the steering wheel or your butt. Putting your foot to the floor only changed the wine the car was making but did little to actually increase the speed. Somehow you sit on top of, rather than in the seat, which made it quite difficult to stay in the seat (held in by the seatbelt rather than the seat itself). Perhaps the retro side of the charm was a crap old car driving feeling?
I was offered one with 29k miles from new just recently. One deceased owner, with lots of the original documents from purchase. Silver convertible too all for the princely sum of $2500, which in the US is staggering for a tidy drivable car. Still said no.

Re: Cars you hated and hope not to see again
I still remember the disappointment I felt when first I saw inside one. I've never actually taken one out - the only opportunity I've had was at the airport in Las Vegas. I'd booked a convertible and it was either the skip version of the PT which looked like an Easter basket or a Sebring. The Sebring was predictably dire but at least I didn't look such a cunt.
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......

I liked the PT Cruiser. Although changing the clutch in a derv was the most horrific workshop job I was even involved in.
Early mk5 Escorts were awful things, not just in the way they drove, but in the way they wore out and fell apart like cheap trainers.

The rest of the car was dismal- the 480 included. Hateful.

I have to say that despite what the press say about the apparently shitty gearchange manual Saabs are alleged to have, I've never had a problem with them.
Long throw, clunky, manual Mercs though...
