The most annoying thing with these cars is the temp gauge won't stay set to exterior temp & you have to select it every time you start them.
You poor thing.

Everyone raves about handling & power. It was shit slow, didn't handle, felt like it was going to fall apart & worse in every way than the 205D I'd driven previously.
Me too. Bought a low miles 1.9 GTI off my then Mother in Law.
It was fucking awful in almost every way.
Not fast, very short travel suspension, crap.

My missus had a GR as a company car.

In some ways it was better than my Mk2 Golf GTi even though it was over 40hp down. We used the Golf if we had to go any distance but the Pug was actually more enjoyable just driving around.

Drove a 911 (996 I think), on a track day. Expected to love it, didn't.

Also agree about V6 versions of bread and butter cars - my Passat VR6 was fast after 5000 rpm but it didn't handle. The 1.8 I had was a better all round car.

Allow me to question normal convention.

The 205GTi is a far better car in 1.6 form than 1.9.

Wasn't it Car or Performance car that said that back in the day?
