Is it important for a car to have poke?

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

There’s something quite special about having a car with no power but infinitely thrashable.

Driving an MG midget or a diesel Corsa with an unburstable engine, and only just keeping up with modern traffic, so no-one realises you are having the time of your life, caning the tits off it.

That said, I always though a Suby 250 - 300bhp was more than enough, but then you drive something with 500bhp+ and the Suby doesn’t seem to have enough power to get out of its own way.

Still, I think my license prefers the first scenario and honestly it’s probably more fun.

That's why my old Midget was fun a lot of the time. When I was working in Dorking for a bit the daily trip up the A24 was dull for everyone else but I was often sliding on bends and stuff while enjoying the drive.

Didn't James Hunt have an A35 for that reason?

You just get used to things I think, it's must obvious when you jump from something with loads of instant torque to something that takes its time to build up.

I used to have more fun with chucking my 600 Enduro bike about on the road at largely legal speeds than I did with my 600 race rep because caning that about meant exceeding the speed limit by the time you hit red line in 2nd or were winding through 3rd.

Even if it goes for 10k more I reckon it'll be a bargain for somebody given its provenance.

I’m sure there’s a story that Ayrton Senna had a go in that van after a dinner with Hunt in London. That won’t hurt the provenance

An A35 is a helluva lot faster than a 6.9 Merc with no wheels.
