Didn't they race it around a London Square or was that Stirling Moss?

It was the van and it was apparently a regular party gameLynehamHerc wrote: ↑Sat May 22, 2021 5:26 pm Didn't they race it around a London Square or was that Stirling Moss?

6.9 Mercedes? Never heard of such a thing.NorfolkNWeigh wrote: ↑Sat May 22, 2021 5:12 pm I’m sure there’s a story that Ayrton Senna had a go in that van after a dinner with Hunt in London. That won’t hurt the provenance

An A35 is a helluva lot faster than a 6.9 Merc with no wheels.
As I suspected I was right about everything.

From when Mercedes built just proper cars not Renault engined shopping trollies:

At the time it was widely considered to be the best car in the world.

Our 107 has no poke whatsoever but is great fun to drive. Nothing happens below 3k and not much more after that. You can thrash the tits off it without breaking the limit. A wheel at each corner means it handles well for what it is.

In a series of bizzare coincidences, back in 1993 my then girlfriend remarked, after being a passenger in my RS1600i whilst I was thrashing it, if I thought I was James Hunt. I thought nothing of it until later that evening when I heard on the news that he'd died earlier that day. I'd put that down to a chance coincidence if it wasn't for later that month when she remarked that whilst climaxing, I look like Les Dawson! In a shocking twist, he died later that day!

It's a sad loss if he has gone.

Re: Is it important for a car to have poke?
Car swap day - handed the 318 back in exchange for my old bus. Just joining the A11 dual carriageway from a minor road junction is all I need to kneel in praise of poke. Pick a small gap between the trucks and floor it. I’d have been still waiting there now in the 318.
Decent modern obscurity (XV?) in the car park, and a lovely Morgan.
