Re: Is it important for a car to have poke?
I know some Pilots and convoys had Pug engines and Ford gearboxes, some all Pug, some all Ford and some Pilots had the Prima without a turbo. I could never remember which were the ones to avoid when I was doing a bit of trading.
I do know the ex-army 200 minibus I had and used to rent out as a cab was the slowest thing on the planet. I once took 8 Bon Jovi groupies from Milton Keynes Bowl to Cardiff after the Bowl gig on a Saturday night. None of them was a small lass and I didn’t get home until about 8 o’clock on Sunday morning, Mrs N was sure I’d been up to no good , could t believe it took 9 hours .

The Freight-Rover 300 series/LDV 400/Convoy models all had a 2.5 derv either from Land Rover, Peugeot (some with Turbo) or Ford (some with Turbo). Petrols were O-series or Ford lumps. And of course the Rover V8. The Ford diesels went from the Banana lump to the fucking shite TDCi. Only the Ford engines came with Ford gearboxes. The rest were Rover 77mm or R380.

Actually, the only other thing that felt like it was going backwards at the first sniff of an incline was a Merc 207 TN van I had. That was fucking miserable to drive.
