What Classic ?

No not a new magazine with a potential lifespan of 6 months. A pea for help and advice.
My long suffering wife has decided she wants to buy me a “ Classic car” for my recent birthday. Actually on my birthday we bought a 2014 BMW X3 as a sop to my advancing years and the closest I will get to a Qashqai or Invacare, but this was just a coincidental utility purchase ( nice and easy to get in and out mind)
A little bit of my boring life history , first car a Mk2 Cortina, lots of Escorts, Mk3/4 Cortinas, Capris, Zodiacs and Granadas interspersed with random foreign shite as a lad Renault 16 and 17, a couple of Audi 100s, an Impala even a Wartburg Knight and Citroen Dyane.
As you might suspect anything old with a Ford badge is out of budget ( £5k, although another couple might be found) so her romantic idea of an Orange 2000e with a Webasto , similar to the first car we had Ugandan Discussions in, is out of the window. There are a few 100e and Corsair “running projects” just needing, allegedly, a bit of tidying on Facebook and eBay. But I don’t want something tatty or not on the button,I’m to old and lazy. I need instant gratification!
So, suggestions and examples please. I’ve noticed a few 50’s saloons within budget ; Morris Six, Humber Hawk , Minx and SuperMinx etc and a lot of Morris Minors, A35s and MGB GTs which would be quite sensible from a parts and running point of view. I’m pretty much recovered from last years health issues but still struggle using the Boxster for any length of time , so a saloon built for a substantially built gentleman is probably for the best.
As the Septics say: Have at it!
