Re: Scooter for a 16 year old
None of the cheap ones were an excellent fit below the ears, so with a cheap one after a few months it'd wobble as I rode. No matter how tight they were from new.

Re: Scooter for a 16 year old
I've a couple of cheap lids. I also only own a couple of lids. Ones a pisspot lid I wore on the trike and occasionally do on the bike, the other is an half face with full visor. I was told about the benefits of full facewhen he seen my helmet at the CBT place and my point back was I know the risks but I can't stand being too enclosed. At least with a flip front I can flip it down in bad weather or leave it up plus I don't have to take my glasses off.

Re: Scooter for a 16 year old
Try and find a Speedfight or other two stroke 50cc scooter. There are loads of them over here (not that that helps you), many easily doing over 40mph, probably because of different rollers.
Work used to buy me a new helmet every 12 to 18 months, so had more than a few top of the range Arai's, Schuberth's, Shoei's, etc. My experience has been that HJC's are a great fit for me, and only a bit down on quality, which is only the lining.
As for clothing, many great brands for sale secondhand on ebay, etc., for very little money, some of it practically unworn. Much better than an unknown brand bought new.

Re: Scooter for a 16 year old
Not many two strokes left as they haven't been made for a few years due to EU regs. I've had a couple of speedfight 100s and both were pretty quick for what they were. When I was younger it was all two stroke scooters with silly exhausts. Piaggio zip and typhoon, gilera runner,Suzuki katana and Yamaha aerox were the common ones.Jerzy Woking wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 3:18 pm Try and find a Speedfight or other two stroke 50cc scooter. My friend has a couple of speedfight 100s and I do know he's got 3 sym Mio scooters he's wanting to sell as a job lot. One 50,1 100 both with logbooks and a third 100 import from Spain I think that can't be registered for some reason, well that's what he was told by last owner. May be an idea if you wanting some father son time building up a good 100 for when he's 17 and he can use the 50 straight away.
Re: Scooter for a 16 year old
Thanks for the feedback guys. I will take it all into concideration. Idiot ex suggested getting an electric assisted bike, as he can drive it now. When I pointed out the go 15mph, and would not have enough range to do his journey, she backed off. Then she was talking about a brand new £1800 scooter. I fucked that off, as he's bound to stack it, as mentioned above.
I've found a lexmoto 50cc bike on marketplace 2020 for £400. Won't come out of gear. He bought it to fix for his son, but his enthusiasm outpaced his skill. He also thinks it has 31 thousand km, but the stupid cunt is counting the red one on the right which measures 10ths, so really only 3.1k.

Re: Scooter for a 16 year old
There's a bit of a loophole if I remember right that the geared 50s aren't classed as mopeds and not legal for 16 year olds. I'm not sure where I seen it though and not sure if regulations have changed. If it's a lexmoto hunter 50 they can do around 40 and not restricted or didn't used to be. They are very small too and not the best build quality. Maybe Warren can verify the laws on eared faster than 28mph at 16?fraser wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 11:11 am Thanks for the feedback guys. Re: Scooter for a 16 year old
Having an electric scooter I would say don't go near them as the range is rubbish and you will be constantly charging it. They also say you mustn't charge them in the house or leave them unattended whilst plugged in. Electric transport is the future though so we are continually told.

Re: Scooter for a 16 year old
I don't think so. Unless they made a new rule recently.
Old mopeds are UK national cat 'p' 30mph which is different to EU-wide cat 'AM', which is 45km/h and other jazz. It's close, but not exactly the same.
Maybe that's where it's coming from, rather than the gears themselves.

The Gilera DNA used to be a popular half bike half scooter.fraser wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 11:11 am Thanks for the feedback guys. I will take it all into concideration. Re: Scooter for a 16 year old
I do know the c50 semi auto wasn't a moped category so wasn't sure if it still was in place as I don't think the hunter for example is limited.Eddie Honda wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2024 4:55 pmI don't think so. Unless they made a new rule recently.
