Does Your Mayor Have A Shit Official Car?

Post by Warren t claim »

Here in Wirral our local mayor has always been ferried around in a ratepayers car with the cherished plate WCM1M.

In about 1978 the Tory mayor visited my primary school in the official mayoral car, a Daimler DS420. During the afternoon break, she was happy to let us all have a sit in it.

Fast forward a couple of decades and a black XJ6 is our official car, first an XJ40 and then an X300 running (badly) on LPG as, according to the stickers on the back of every council van, Wirral has heard the cry of the earth!

This is later pensioned off, after bodging the LPG system at the ratepayers' expense, for an ally bodies XJ6 which quite often spotted illegally parked by the then chauffer, see pic below.

When this turned out to be a total fucking money pit, the council downsized and in 2013 bought a fucking Vauxhall Insignia!!

Now, this has been pensioned off after fucking up and our new official car is guess what????

A fucking run out model Mitsubishi Outlander PHEX in black with the crest on both front doors!

Over to you peeps!

Last I heard/saw the Mayor of Southampton was driving a donated electric Ioniq!

This, after the hereditary registration "TR1" was sold off. It used to be on a run of stuff, in recent times I recall it being on a Daimler DS420, then a stretched Rover 800 followed by the ignominy of being transferred to a nasty Transhit minibus donated by the local Ford plant for social welfare use.
That kind of fell over on its arse when Ford stuck 2 fingers up to Southampton and transferred their van lines to Turkey.

Someone has the plate on retention now as it is not listed. The above shenanigans are of course fairly typical of a long-term Labour-held Cuntcil who feel it better to support a Korean car manufacturer via a shonky local car dealer than it was to preserve a long-standing piece of British motoring heritage that would still be serving now.

Neighbouring (and fierce rival) Portsmouth City Council still have their "BK1" plate on an XF Jag. This numberplate once earned the council considerable kudos during a visit to the naval dockyards by Leonid Brezhnev in Cold War times. He remarked that it represented Brezhnev/Khrushchev, apparently.....

They had a Rolls Phantom VI, "G0" plate. That was ditched because a story came out about it's high running costs and it was generating bad PR.

I think that's in the Riverside Museum now, somebody donated them a Rolls Ghost to use and it caused such a kerfuffle regards the value of the car/plate vs local poverty they now use a VW Phaeton.

Just under £3k for 2 of us in a 3 bed bungalow. Good value Labour council.

The Southend Mayor still has HJ 1 on his official car, but sadly the car is something very dreary, a modern Audi of some sort, A8 I think.

F 1 was owned by Essex County Council, sadly flogged off a few years ago now.

It beggars belief that a tax payer funded car can be anything other than something at least remotely designed and/or assembled by a tax payer. Anything else is taking the bread from the tax payer's mouth.
