My local council leases a Vauxhall insignia.

Most of the councils over here lease motors, Belfast as the largest council have three cars. Two leased and one owned. The two leased cars are predictable, BMW 7 series......but the owned one is great shite - a Peugeot 607

That's neatly debunked a myth for me too, I always thought it was Bernice Ecclestone who'd bought F1 from Essex Cuntcil.

Cardiff City still has a Phantom V but it is under a sheet in the underground car park at County Hall, every so often there is a bit of hoo ha about selling it and its KG1 registration.
Vale if Glamorgan has had various stuff from stretched Mercedes, Rover, Granada, Jaguar, currently running a Skoda registration SNY1

I can’t believe Jags would be significantly worse for the cops to use. They just want to play cops and robbers with the same cars.
And modern BMs are hardly paragons of reliability.

Back on topic

Volvo S80
Registration: YUT1

Fuck knows what the Reg is about - bears no relation to anything local as far as I can see.

I know Derby used to be CCH1 which was at least the local ref letters.

I looked Derby up - still seems to be CCH1 and it’s on a locally made Toyota Avensis. Which by the way, would be perfectly fine for the cops to use too.

I know, I went to Doncaster a couple of years ago and saw ; many bargain bakeries, a lot of mobility scooter shops and an official looking Skoda Superb with a Mayoral looking crest on a magnetic roof plaque.

In Milton Keynes we have the U.K. HQ of both Mercedes and VAG and for many years the Council would ponce a car for a few months at a time off one or the other. Consequently the Mayor would be seen in S Classes, A8s, Phaaetons etc at no cost to us poor Taxpayers.
However, some interfering twat complained that these companies had a hold over the council so shouldn’t be supplying the cars . They then got a Volvo S80 as part of a lease deal which runs out this year, they’ve promised to get something “ green” . As Nissan have their Design and Technoogy Centre here it’ll probably be a Leaf, like in Autoshiteboy’s Manor. No doubt a free electric car will be acceptable bribery!

I must admit to a bit of a vested interest, because I got a call asking if I’d be interested in the job of Mayoral chauffeur, yesterday! I made polite appreciative noises and asked for more details, but I suspect the money will be shit and I might have to drive a fe king Leaf. More details soon…
