Which always amuses me as I think they are legumes and not real nuts anyway?

Rather than brush painting or rattle canning it, this Minor is the car you need to learn to paint with. With a gun and compressor I mean. If you can weld, you can use a spray gun.

You'd think. I'm not that great with liquid based products. Mrs SiC will probably do it as she's better with that sort of stuff and she quite wants to do it.

I've been given a compressor that's more than good enough to do it but I need to get the spray kit. But with the weather turning, it'll likely have to wait till next year. For now it'll get a rattle can over the freshly welded area and take off the filler and redo that panel.

Do it in the garage in any weather, heat it with an electric heater and turn it off when you start spraying. A decent gun isn't much and neither is the essential water trap.
Prep is key. In primer, guide coat it, block it, prime it again and again until it's perfect. Putting the paint on is the easy bit. It just needs lots of thin even coats built up over 30 mins using cellulose. You don't need an amazing gloss from the gun because you can 2000/2500 it and polish it later on.

All well and good, but the garage is currently occupied!

Arch in and welds dressed back.

Then a splash of zinc primer and black paint.

Haven't welded the inside chassis rail yet, so that will be tomorrows job. Does mean I'll end up repainting this outside section as it'll be burnt off. Once that is done, filler to smoothen things out and then some body colour paint.

I do need to get a chance to go into town and pick up some new rubber wing beading and fixing bolts. Bit of a hassle to have a half hour journey for those bits, but it's the final thing left to finish this repair.

They're keeping it in stock a few days so they can double the price like what's happening to natural gas.
