Re: Big snails
Sadly no more, some cunts stole it from the yard it was parked up at a while back.
The spec on this one isn't too shy, he's even got paddle shifts fitted behind the steering wheel.

Re: Big snails
That's a fucking shame.
There's no way the scrotes that stole it, had any idea of the fuel pump and turbo on it.
Worth a fortune on their own.
I'm sure the Merc has some interesting features, if his previous work is anything to go by.

Re: Big snails
They had a few more cars at the same time. WTF else is going to know what to do with a custom built standalone controller for VNT? He did track the wheels down being sold somewhere up north but nothing ever came of it. Wheels, custom smily face H section rods, Slip diff, VNT controller, big VNT, custom stainless manifold and bastardised intake etc etc. such specific stuff. I bet it ended up over the water somewhere.
The Merc has a VNT HX35 off a Cummins 5.9l engine iirc, I personally think that comes under the interesting bracket.

Re: Big snails
I sent him out the next day for a bottle of K seal as there are no obvious leaks, I'll monitor it and fingers crossed it'll last a bit longer. It's just hit 79k iirc.

Re: Big snails
Another 1k+ done in the scabby Xsara but it's soon going to be surplus to requirements and due to the old man having too many cars here and in Portugal it looks like it'll be being moved on. It's not used a drop of water lately and has proven totally reliable. That's been well and truly tested in the recent heatwave with it basically being used as a works van. He's bought a 15 plate Portuguese plated Corsa that needs driving to the Algarve and the 350Z driving back as swapping the headlights over would prove too expensive.

Re: Big snails
Yep, 1110 something miles all in. Ferry to Santander, couple of days in Salamanca, then Nazare in Portugal and on to the Algarve. 24 hours on a mini cruise liner/ferry, Spain, plane and train back home, everything what not to do in the middle of a pandemic It was a great trip. The car's still stuck there. I loaded the paint with wax before I left but it's probably fucked by now after spending a summer there in the sun? Not quite sure how he's going to get it back here tbh.

Re: Big snails
Ideally you would need a back up driver, I may know somebody who could do with some sunshine....paulplom wrote: ↑Sat Jul 24, 2021 3:44 pmI'll drive it back for expenses.Scruffy Bodger wrote: ↑Sat Jul 24, 2021 3:28 pm20200528_181940.jpg

Re: Big snails
I'll tell the old man you've volunteered
A bit more on the Merc with the big snail earlier. It's been blowing off the connector from the stop solenoid since it had a Bosch 044 electric fuel pump fitted. It's going to need that eventually as the standard pump won't flow anywhere near enough fuel. To help the situation we removed the return line banjo and I drilled it out from the standard 1.5mm to 3mm on the side and end. We also replaced the stop solenoid at the same time.
Initially things were proving positive. No more sucking air in, no leaks after a 20 mile test run, it's boosting up to 2 bar and the retro paddle shifts are working on the auto box. It's too rich on initial throttle when you boot it and running lean all the way after that tho so needs more work doing on the map.
It's also spat one of the pump connections on the way back from mine apparently a couple are broken but they are about 15 quid each. It's definitely better than it was tho
