Re: En route to potential collection
My Mum and Dad had a precession of those and didn’t understand it, until I borrowed their TDi version. (Think it was called something else).
Great car and a pleasure to ride in.
Hope you get some fun and miles out of yours!

Re: En route to potential collection
When he messaged back and said it was a turbo I decided to go and take a look at it. Apart from the stiff clutch it drives really well. I was following my mate in his silly fast D5 V50 and had no trouble keeping up on sweeping or tight A road bends on the 120 mile trip back home. Passengers who just view cars as a means of getting from A to B have commented about the ride in my other 405, they do eat up the miles very well indeed. I suspect the cheap tyres on it are getting on a bit, plenty of tread on the back and a fair bit on the front but I reckon they are going a bit hard? Saying that, checking the pressures might now be a bad thing
It's pretty straight as far as I could see but it had been wiped over with a rag with something oily on it from what I could make out and it was drizzling with rain. There' a bit of bubbled paint by the fuel cap and scratches on the passenger door etc. Not sure how well the paint will cut back tbh it looks like it's not been polished in forever and all the plastics are grey from the sun. These suffer really badly from lacquer peel, there's bound to be some but it's not covered in blisters thankfully. Deffo a 20 footer tho and then there's the headlining, sunroof and a dirty great stain on the drivers seat.
The ad was shocking, as were his communication skills, not helped by a family tragedy on Boxing Day apparently, that was the reason for radio silence for days. Someone gave him the car as a Xmas bonus apparently?
The MOT history is worth a look but because Technocripple don't know how to screenshot it.

Here's my last 405 estate. Picture taken on Hubnut's driveway believe it or not.

Re: 405 Quasar Estate
Did it die with him then? Not sure on the alloys there tbh (306 Meridian?), same as with the ones on the one I just bought. All the centre caps are missing and from what I gather they are like rocking horse shit. Same with the airbag steering wheel and the light on it randomly flashed on the trip back home. I bet people want daft money for one like on the SRDT?Warren t claim wrote: ↑Fri Dec 31, 2021 6:44 am pugestate1.PNG

It's a pity this Quasar doesn't resemble the original one

They think it's got a sporting chance of completing a trip under its own power?

Re: 405 Quasar Estate
There's definitely a bit of Gallic artistic license going on there
That's what I'm hoping on. It's got 100K less than the V50 on the clock so fingers crossed there's a few more miles left in it yet? I'll see if my local factors can get Gates cambelt and water pump kits in tomorrow. The last stamp in the book is from 2005 and I'm suspecting it might have only had oil changes since?
I've also ordered batteries for the 2 plippy keys I got with it, 2 were totally flat and the other too were showing less than .5v each so I'll clean the internal contacts up and see if the remote locking works.

Re: 405 Quasar Estate
Do the later 405s have the little IR sensor near the rear view mirror or have they got the radio frequency type? The early IR ones I found pretty pointless as you had to pretty much be stood at the windscreen. Had the IR type on a early clio and a zx. I'm sure another car had the similar style but can't remember what. I'm thinking my early 406 may have been the IR type too.
